I think 2013 is going to be The Year of Getting Back to Frugality for us. Here’s a bit of a roundup of the last week:
The grocery challenge is going reasonably well. This week I spent $46.15 as well a $20 survey site gift card. So we have spent $131.72 of our $250. Woolworths had almond flour and their range of nuts for half price this week so I stocked up on them. DH came home yesterday and said he had something to confess – he then produced a bottle of coke, and ice creams for us. He paid for it with his own spending money and considering it was really bloody hot here yesterday I was glad to have a cold treat. Everyone is really trying to spend less.
Well we’ve had a few days now without our pay TV – and I LOVE IT!!! happy dancing here
The house is silent again in the mornings – aahh bliss!! I really do not miss it at all. It just becomes a habit, and there are better things that we could be doing. I spent an hour outside this morning planting some zucchini and celery seeds.By 7.30 it was too hot outside so now I’m in here with the windows and blinds shut and it won’t be long till the air conditioner goes on. it’s just 8.30am and it’s 28 degrees in here already.
This week I rejoined the town library. When I went in they looked up my old account and apparently it had a HUGE fine on it – she wouldn’t say how much she just wiped it without me saying anything. I told her I didn’t have any books as I hadn’t borrowed for years but she just said she had no problem with wiping it out and handed me my new card. I love libraries and it was great to wander around the bookshelves again. I borrowed several books on container vegetable gardening and some sewing books. I’ll get back in the habit of regular library visits now.
Well thats my quick roundup for the week. Today I’m going to be sewing myself some new nighties. They will cost less than $5 each to make myself. I used a spotlight coupon yesterday to buy some fabric on special. I found out that spotlight has a .99cent magazine that they put out each month. On the back of each magazine is $10 voucher if you spend $20. You can buy sale items with it and use your VIP discount, so I’ll be buying that each month to get the voucher.
Time to close up the house and try and keep cool. Have a good weekend wherever you are!
Oops, typo alert! I believe you meant 2013 in your first sentence, not 2012.

That’s awesome news about cutting your pay TV! We’ve been talking about the same at our house. The only people who would be saddened are the kids. They watch about 30 minutes/day & wouldn’t be able to see their favorites. We’ll see if we end up going for it!

It’s taken me a lot of nagging to get rid of the pay TV, but eventually they gave in, I started by cutting down the package we were on every few months. good luck

You’re taking frugal to a whole new level by sewing your own pajamas. If you know how to do that maybe you should start a business selling pajamas to get out of debt.
