I have been back at work the last few days and it finally feels like life is returning to normal after the break in. I decided to completely clean out my bedroom and change where I keep things. I tossed out more ‘stuff’, washed the curtains and rearranged all our clothes. I took everything off the dressing table that was there, it’s just a reminder.
We’ve compiled our list for the police and the insurance company. We are in the process of getting it valued and the insurance company will get their own valuation. The first day back at work was hard, and coming into the empty house but that has passed. We are all sleeping better now and the cat is eating again thank goodness.
We also had some discussions with the police about securing our home. DH got a quote for a burglar alarm – yes, shutting the gate after the horse has bolted lol!. I am not sure about that but on the other hand they have already been in our house so they know whats here and they have most likely watched our movements, so they know when we are at work.
Here’s a few good links about home security. The first checklist is from the police, it’s very good and it does not take long to go through.
Residential Home Security Checklist – NSW Police
I’m happy to hear that things are getting better for you.. You can’t let them steal your life, things they can have! Stay strong!

The house I currently live in does not have a burglar alarm per se …. instead, we have a dog! He lets us know when anyone is within 50 yards of our house LOL At night because it is hot here, we leave our main front doors open all night and our metal screen gates locked so that air can flow through. I sleep without a problem because I know that the dog will alert on any funny business. Before that, I lived on acreage and I had both an alarm system in the house AND the dog LOL I could not sleep without the alarm system because the house and property were so large. I think that you will feel much better with an alarm system ….. it will probably give you a stronger sense of security. You’ll know that no one was in the house while you were out and that no one can surprise you when you’re asleep.

I think I would rather have a dog again. My dear old dog died last year, she was a great burglar alarm. It’s just being ready for the work of a new puppy and DH is not that keen. We checked out video cameras and that is looking like a good possibility, not too expensive either.

If you opt for an alarm, make sure you notify your insurance company. You may get a small discount (maybe 5%).
