MR900387533Well it has been a big few weeks at work with people being advised if their jobs will continue or not. I was very relieved to find out that I still have a job!  It was a big relief for our immediate team as we had a lot of very negative messages over the recent weeks and we’ve all been feeling the pressure. Unfortunately others have not been so lucky, so the mood at work is pretty sombre right now. There are some changes in my job that I’m not pleased about but it seems awfully petty to complain about those changes when others are going to be laid off. So I’ll just suck it up and be grateful! :)

There’s lots of financial news happening here which I’ll update on shortly. But for the moment, just happy to know the paycheques will continue!

file0001039929296It’s amazing how much better you feel after a week of good sleep and not having to please anyone but yourself! Last week I just lazed about and rested. I caught up on sleep and switched off to the outside world for a while.

Yesterday I felt up to starting to tackle that long list of jobs I’ve got waiting for me.I took over a years worth of Medicare receipts down to the office and claimed back just over $280! My account is set up so that these claims get paid straight into the mortgage accounts, so that was a nice little booster.

We finally dismantled a huge 3 ft.aquarium that we’ve had in our lounge room since we built the house and took it outside. It’s headed for the tip as it has a crack in it. For years it’s been a lizard cage to DS’s lovely bearded dragon, Lazarus, but he died a few months ago so it’s time to get rid of it! That has freed up a lot of space in our lounge room and it’s one less piece of ‘stuff’ to clutter up the place.

My plan this week is to spend the mornings working on jobs I need to get done and then the afternoons resting on the lounge watching videos. At the moment I’m watching the extended version of Lord Of the Rings – love it!  I know it’s not everyones idea of a holiday, but it’s what I need at the moment – our first REAL holiday for years is coming in June – more about that soon! In the mean time I’m just loving the Autumn weather, it’s my favourite season.

… makes Louise a slack blogger!!

Wow, I can’t believe it’s a month since I’ve posted!  It’s been a very hectic time here, mainly work related and I guess I’m hesitant to write about work too often. Essentially I’ve been working some pretty long hours and dealing with a lot of work pressures as we continue this restructuring process. I’m getting weary and I can’t wait for the whole process to be over. Honestly, some days I just wish they’d lay me off and be done with it! We have a meeting in two weeks where they will explain the exact process and payments we get if our jobs go so that will be good.

So I don’t have much exciting to post :)    … it’s sleep, eat, work, pay the bills  and do some repairs and painting on weekends.

My grocery challenge has kind of gone out the window as I just haven’t had time to track everything. We seem to be averaging about $100 a week groceries with one night of takeaway also. So the challenge has fallen by the wayside but our spending is still pretty frugal. The takeaway is my treat on the day I travel all day and I get home late.

So we’re all good, plodding along. I’ll soon be hitting another milestone with the mortgage which is, after all, our main goal.

MR900422198I am so tired…. I’ve been traveling a lot the last couple of days and that, on top of the travel and days at Dads – well I feel like I’m on sleepwalking.  It’s been a big two days at work this week so far – two of my team have resigned. That’s one third of us gone in one hit!  We also were told that layoffs will start in July, but they won’t confirm which sections are being shut down yet.  However our team (whats left of it lol!) has been called to a full day of meetings later this week with the ‘powers that be’.

Frankly I’m just too tired to care too much right now.  Fortunately I had already booked a two day retreat for this weekend, so at least I am heading off somewhere nice and peaceful straight after the day of meetings with management. I really need a break to truthful – with two staff leaving the workload is only going to be more pressured for whatever time remains. I wish they’d just tell us if we are going or staying – I will be fine either way – but it’s hard not knowing.

On the painting front – the main bedroom is finished and it looks great! Before we moved our clothes back in we did another ‘cull’ and DH and I have both tossed out more stuff. On Sunday I went through all my linen again and reduced it even further. I made two car trips to Vinnies this last weekend with bags of clothes, linen and DD’s clothes also. I think I keep busy as a way of coping with everything. It helps to feel that something positive is getting accomplished.

I do have contingency plans if I am laid off – three different scenarios:

    1. go back into business for myself – I  still get calls from clients regularly
    2. get a job – I have been offered a job locally
    3. return to study…. a PhD  plus part time work   – :)    my fave option – scary but exciting!

If I don’t get laid off I’ll probably stay for a few more years, depending on what job I end up with.  2013 promises to be an interesting year!
